Canine Flick Is Top Dog at Box Office as ‘Love Hurts’ Flops
Universal PicturesDog Man held its ground for the second consecutive week, holding onto the top spot as other films failed to compete in their opening weekend. The family-friendly Universal and DreamWorks Animation adventure proved to go the distance this Super Bowl weekend, collecting $13.7 million in 3,887 North American cinemas, despite missing its projections for $19-$22 million. The movie has now grossed $66 million globally on a $40 million budget, according to Variety. Heart Eyes, an R-rated slasher made by Scream‘s Spyglass Media Group, came in second, with $8.5 million in 3,102 theaters this weekend on a $18 million budget. The movie had high ratings, earning a 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Third-place’s Love Hurts, however, cannot say the same. The film, led by Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose, collected $5.8 million from 3,055 venues cinemas, receiving less-than-favorable reviews along the way.
